Summer Camp 2012 - Options

Following our Summer Camp at Rudyard in 2011, It is now time to think about our Annual Summer camp for 2012. As we were at "home" in 2011, we thought we would provide some options for 2012, including a possible camp at Great Tower on the shores of Lake Windermere.

At the bottom of the page please feel free to add your own comments or thoughts about these options and what you would like to do.

1. Great Tower Scout Activity Centre

Great Tower is located on the shores of Lake Windermere in the Lake District. It is about 2 hours drive away, and can easily be reached by train. The camp would be entirely in tents (including, Cooking and eating etc.). The campsite is located in and close to areas of natural beauty, a lot of which we could explore.

We would take part in a selection of activities provided by the Centre –which could include: kayaking, climbing, crate stacking and low ropes etc. We would also take part in leader led activities, such as mountain biking and pulling. It is likely that we would take our Devon Longboat, Juffa with us. There would also be days out in the local area.

Having made a rough estimate of the costs involved, It is anticipated that a full 8 day camp at Great Tower would cost around £200-£210, whilst a shorter 5 day camp would cost around £160-£170. The dates would depend on site and leader availability as well as the preferences expressed by Scouts and Explorers over the next week or two.

You can find out more information about Great tower on its website.

2. Our Own Rudyard Campsite

We can hold a week long camp at our Rudyard site. Activities would primarily be the usual leader led activities, such as sailing, kayaking and pulling. We may be able to provide some climbing at the roaches. There would also be the famous overnight expedition in Juffa and/or Crisp.

Subject to available transport days out might include visits to the caves in and around Castleton, Cheddletion valley railway and other local attractions.

As this is our site, with no additional transport requirements, the price for the usual 8 day camp would be around £120. As with the Great Tower option - the dates of the camp would depend on leader availability and preferences expressed by scouts over the next week or two.

If you would like to discuss any these options or have any questions, please feel free to call me (David, the ASL) or drop me an email (asl@89thstokeseascouts.org.uk).

hoping we go to Great Tower, as we haven't been for at least 16years, would be good to go somewhere 'new' and take Juffa with us
